Student Research & UN Sustainable Development Goals
Understanding the global & systemic impacts of YOUR research
Did you know that your interests can translate into research and have big sustainability impacts? Many of UMBC's students and faculty are inquiring and hypothesizing about topics connected to sustainability systems on local, regional, national, and global levels.
UMBC's Office of Sustainability is working to better understand how our community’s academic interests and pursuits align with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs, adopted by 193 countries, are the world’s call to action on the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing humanity and the natural world.Did you know that your interests can translate into research and have big sustainability impacts? Many of UMBC's students are inquiring and hypothesizing about topics connected to sustainability systems
Specifically, we are working to:
· Identify expertise at UMBC to advance the achievement of the SDGs
· Encourage opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration
· Educate the community about systems thinking and highlight the many facets of sustainability
· Connect sustainability at UMBC to global challenges
Currently, we have documented the previous two years of the sustainability academic excellence demonstrated via URCAD. We invite you to explore this project further: Student Sustainability Research Dashboard
Ultimately, we would like to also capture the efforts of any UMBC student, faculty, or staff working on research, or operational, projects that align with the SDGs. Even if you are not sure if your project connects to the SDGs please submit it to this project for consideration!
