Turn down for Spring Break

As students, faculty and staff get ready for spring break, it's time to turn down!

Before you go tomorrow, unplug electronics, turn off lights, and save energy!

Don't think these actions matter? Think again:

Turn it Off:

  • Lighting adds up to 31% of campus electricity use!

  • Turn off lights, and electronics, every time.

Let it Rest:

  • How much energy can you save just by using your hibernation settings? About $100 per year worth of energy.

Dial it Right:

  • Half of our energy footprint comes from heating and cooling.

  • By lowering the thermostat by 5 degrees you save 15% more energy. 70º in the winter and 76º summer are UMBC’s set points.
