Description
UMBC’s Counseling Center and Office of Sustainability invite you to join our special workshop to discuss the pervasive emotional climate of fear, anger, sadness, shame and hope about climate change. This workshop will discuss strategies you can use to address your own emotions, cope with eco-grief, and process the hard realities about climate change impacts.
Who should attend?
Anyone can attend this event. It is designed as a ‘lunch and learn’ type seminar to provide a brief introduction about climate anxiety, eco-grief, and strategies to cope with the associated feelings.
What are Climate Anxiety and Eco-Grief?
Climate change is causing distress, anger and other negative emotions in children and young people worldwide, a survey of thousands of 16- to 25-year-olds has found. A 2021 study found that this ‘climate-anxiety’ has a negative impact on respondents’ daily lives.
Eco-Grief, a concept coined by Aldo Leopold in the 1940s, is the experience of the emotional heartbreak and mourning that comes when we lose the natural environment around us.
