Sustainability Matters Welcomes New Coordinator

The Office of Sustainability is pleased to announce our newest team member Ms. Kayla Hickman! Kayla joins UMBC as the new Environmental Sustainability Coordinator within Sustainability Matters. Kayla will work closely with UMBC's existing sustainability efforts and is looking forward to engaging with the campus community to explore potential new initiatives and programs.

Prior to UMBC, Kayla worked as a Sustainability Coordinator for Weber State University where she managed the university’s on-campus education and outreach programs. There she successfully doubled staff and faculty participation in the Green Office Program and created the campus’s first multi-stakeholder Zero-Waste Council.

Kayla graduated from George Mason University in 2016 with a B.A. in Environmental and Sustainability Studies. As an undergrad, she interned at Mason’s Office of Sustainability where she assisted in completing the university’s STARS report and facilitated the first post-consumer composting program in the largest dining hall on campus. She believes that everyone has a role to play in building a more sustainable future. With that ideal in mind, she is excited to engage the UMBC community in on-campus sustainability that will have a global impact.
