Live green! Whether hiking campus trails, shopping at the campus yard sale, trying out the shuttle, grabbing a bike from the bike share, checking out the farmers market, or volunteering at the community garden, there are so many ways to get involved with Sustainability at UMBC!

Yoga at the Pond

Library Pond 
Join UMBC Recreation for some morning yoga by the pond. Learn about the fitness and recreation classes offered at UMBC while enjoying a peaceful yoga session. Yoga Mats provided, but we encourage you to bring your own mat or towel. Free Yoga Mats will be raffled off. #GETACTIVE

Making Connections: How to get around UMBC Transit

This session is designed for residential students as a way to get familiar with the Halethorpe/ Satellite Line and freshman parking. Please bring your red UMBC ID card with you. www.umbc.edu/transit/

Go to www.umbc.edu/transit for current departure and pick up times. Want to do some shopping or explore the area? Hop on the free UMBC shuttle and explore downtown Catonsville, Baltimore City, or hit the mall at Arundel Mills. Shuttles depart from Hilltop Circle and Commons Drive. Plant Veggies at the Garden

Come to UMBC's community garden to meet student leaders involved with growing food. Volunteer to help plant seedlings and connect with ways to get involved by joining the garden student organization, adopting a plot, or volunteering! Snacks will be provided. sustainability.umbc.edu/garden/

Tour of your College Towns

Learn where to shop, eat, and play – all right in your new backyard. Hot spots you will hit include Patapsco Valley State Park, Double T Diner, Walmart, the Hollywood Theater, and local music and grocery stores. www.umbc.edu/transit/ 

Mindful Meditation Hike 

Tues, Aug 29 | 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Meet at True Grit Statue, outside of the RAC/Admin
This meditation hike on campus trails focuses on unwinding in nature on UMBC’s Conservation and Environmental Research Area (CERA) trail. We will meet promptly at 10am at the True Grit Statue in front of the RAC. We will stop at the CERA pond, and will walk part of the trail in silent meditation for a few minutes, then discuss our experience before returning around 11am. Please note that we will be walking on a fairly flat but unpaved trail for part of the hike. No experience necessary. The route is about 28 minutes and 1.4 miles of walking total. Co-sponsored every first friday of the month, by UMBC Wellness Initiative and Sustainability Matters at UMBC.

Joseph Beuys Sculpture Garden

You don’t want to miss UMBC’s Retriever Yard Sale. Stop by the Commons Terrace to purchase gently used school supplies, residence hall necessities, clothing, etc. for a low and reasonable price! All proceeds go towards sustaining Retriever Treasure for future years and further reducing waste produced during the school year. Hope to see you there.

Welcome Week Service Project

Space is limited, registration is highly recommended. Walk ups may not be possible if event fills up. Register @ http://tinyurl.com/WWSPFA17-UMBC or email romy.huebler@umbc.edu. Spend some time during your first weekend at UMBC learning about and working with Baltimore area nonprofits and service/social action student organizations. Choose from three different issue areas: Food access, environmental health, and public education.Transportation, breakfast, and lunch are provided. Bring water and dress comfortably! Priority deadline for new students is Monday, August 28, 2017. Returning students are welcome to register thereafter.
