SEA's first-ever collaborative comment!

Semester-long groupwork, research, and writing

This semester, we have taken on a project to submit a comment regarding the EPA's Clean Power Plan Rule (CPPR) released in June. It is the first time our group of over 20 students has come together to produce something like this!

The CPPR has the overall goal of reducing the nation's average CO2 emissions by 30% below 2005 levels by 2030. States must submit their individual or regional plans by 2016 using the four building blocks: improving coal heat rate, using more renewables/nuclear, dispatching more natural gas units, and more demand-side management programs.

As Maryland legislative sessions begin to discuss our compliance in 2015, be prepared to write to senators and the governor about the best compliance strategy for our state. We have great demand-side management programs and ongoing off-shore wind projects we need to encourage expanding!

Check out what SEA had to say about the CPPR at a national level (document attached)! Share our efforts with friends. Learn more about CPPR here! Paw this post if you think carbon reduction is essential to a healthy future!

Email awhite2@umbc.edu with any questions about how to be involved or about the CPPR in general.
