Join us and become a campus naturalist!

Help build the iNaturalist Project

The Office of Sustainability would like to invite you to join our new iNaturalist Project!

One of the world’s most popular nature apps, iNaturalist helps you identify the plants and animals around you. Get connected with a community of over a million scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature! What’s more, by recording and sharing your observations, you’ll create research quality data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature. iNaturalist is a joint initiative by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.

iNaturalist is  is an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information (plants and animals) to help each other learn about nature. It's also a crowdsourced species identification system and an organism occurrence recording tool.

Anyone with a computer or smartphone with Internet can use iNaturalist to

  • keep track of your own observations, with maps, calendars, journals, life lists, etc.
  • get help from the community in identifying what you observed
  • share your expertise by adding identifications
