Google Maps to show the lowest carbon route for car journeys
Air Travel Emissions included too!
Starting on 10/13/21 Google Maps will allow users to select the route with the lowest carbon emissions. If the lowest emissions route is also the fastest then google maps will automatically default to this setting.
Google’s chief executive, Sundar Pichai, said the initiative could save 1m tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, or the equivalent of taking 200,000 cars off the road.
Also, Google Flights will now include carbon emissions in their search results allowing fliers to rank flight options by emissions and cost.
