Celebrate Earth Day for the Whole Month of April!

Check out these local virtual earth month events

We have partnered with local universities and organizations from around the Baltimore region to provide our community with some virtual events to attend for this year’s Earth Month & Earth Day! 

Monday, April 5th


Eco-Anxiety Workshop 
3:30-4 PM EST

Learn about what eco-distress is, how it affects our mental health, and ways to manage anxiety. There will be opportunities for Q&A towards the end of the event! This event is hosted by TU’ Sustainability Office and Counseling Center, and is open to community members at UMBC.


Tuesday, April 6th


De-stress Yoga
3:30-4:30

De-stress and take a virtual yoga class! The first half will be chair yoga, and the second will be gentle movement on the floor. Join the session for the first half, the second, or both!

All are welcome to join in when convenient, but please note registration is required.

Wednesday, April 7th


Solve Climate by 2030: Green Recovery, Climate Solutions, & a Just Transition 
5-6:30 PM EST

Join this webinar and community discussion to learn what a just and green transition could look like in the state of Maryland. This webinar will feature:

  • Staci Hartwell, NAACP Maryland State Conference (Environmental and Climate Justice Committee)
  • Jennifer Kunze, Clean Water Action
  • Jared Solomon, Maryland State Delegate

Solve Climate by 2030 is an international project of the Graduate Programs in Sustainability at Bard College. On April 7, 2021, university and high school students across the planet will tune into 100 same-day events in fifty countries.

"Fire & Flood: Queer Resilience in the Era of Climate Change" Film Screening & Discussion

Join students from colleges around Baltimore for a virtual screening and discussion of the film "Fire & Flood: Queer Resilience in the Era of Climate Change". This is part of the Combating Toxic Injustices Event Series, co-hosted by Goucher College, University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Towson University.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD)

Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD) features research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work is shared through oral presentations, posters, artistic exhibits, performances, and film. Check out the interdisciplinary undergraduate research using the platform voicethread.

UMBC Earth Week - Student Led

This year UMBC Greenpeace, MSCAC, and Sunrise UMBC have partnered to provide the UMBC community with events for all of Earth Week! UMBC Earth Week is a student-led initiative to address the climate crisis and to encourage active participation in climate justice

Climate Change Distress & Response Discussion Space

Come join the Office of Sustainability and the Counseling Center for a discussion, holding, and processing space regarding climate change distress and response.


Wednesday, April 21st 


Change Makers Dinner 
5-7:00 PM

UMBC students, faculty, staff, and alumni: Join a conversation about environmental sustainability. 

Meet local leaders and learn about their work, aspirations, and challenges, and how you can get involved. You will have the opportunity to hear from several change makers and spend time in small groups interacting with them and other participants.

Baltimore’s First Zero-Waste Day!
6:30-8:30 PM

Join residents, students and officials to advance Baltimore to a Zero Waste system that benefits communities, labor and our environment.

To finish off our Combating Toxic Injustice series, we are supporting a completely community organized event by South Baltimore Land Trust. You will hear from local organizers and folks on the ground about the path towards zero-waste and how we all can support and stand in solidarity with grassroots environmental justice efforts.
