What:
Who:
A passionate student volunteer team of active and enthusiastic sustainability peer educators.
What:
Teach students about sustainability issues and solutions (waste/recycling, transportation, energy/climate), from right here on campus, to global. 3-5 hour per week commitment.
Why:
To build relationships with other driven, caring, and active members of the campus community, to drive social change and sustainability, and to build experience and skills with public speaking, education and outreach. Eco-ambassadors are also eligible for service learning and leadership practicum from the Shriver Center and a stipend if they consistently track their hours, progress, and impact and complete the provided paperwork.
In partnership with UMBC facilities, Administration and Finance, Residential Life, Dining Services, Athletics, professors and student orgs, eco-ambassadors will help provide tours, guest speakers, trainings, presentations, outreach, competitions, and events focused on environmental sustainability on campus. The main focus of the eco-ambassadors is to educate, communicate and promote sustainable resources and choices on campus, such as energy conservation, recycling, bike share, carpooling, transit, waste reduction, composting and more.

Requirements:
Attend a 4 hour training to get to know the team, learn about campus policies and programs, visit green features and sites on campus like trails, green roofs, and more. Eco-ambassadors volunteer 3-5 hours per week conducting outreach and education about the environment on campus and sharing updates and coordinating with the rest of the team.
