Description

The UMBC Landscape Stewardship Committee in partnership with the Wisdom Institute invite you to join us for our invasive species workshop.

They’re all around us, silently reshaping ecosystems and leaving native animals without their preferred food and shelter. Once they get a foothold, they can be extremely difficult to remove for good. They spread vigorously, wreaking havoc as they go. What are we talking about? Invasive plants!

In Part I of this two-part workshop series, Leslie Morgan, a Master Naturalist and UMBC professor emerita of sociology, will give us a primer on the variety of invasive plants found in our region, how they got here, and the harm they do—from garlic mustard to multiflora rose.

As much as we try to keep them at bay, invasive plants like these and others are as rampant on our campus as they are elsewhere in our region—probably including your own neighborhood. Learn how to recognize these “major villains” and then, in Part II, get your hands dirty and help get rid of them on campus.
